Über den Krieg in Süd-Afrika
Wojcik, Carl
Description:
Four parts in one volume, with maps and loose illustrations in endpocket. 8vo; original green cloth, lettered in black on spine and upper cover; marbled edges; pp. (viii) + 71 + (i), (iv) + 89 + (iii), (iv) + 80, (iv) + 97; several tables; few illustrations; endpocket maps and illustrations, largely with pencilled cross-references to the text. German text. Edges a little rubbed, and corners slightly bumped; earlier owner's name signed on front free endpaper, and neat, contemporary marginal tabulations in ink, such tabulations also to final blanks; regular light browning; some spotting; maps and illustrations in very good condition, with some browning and traces of creasing. (Spohr & Poller 3355; Mendelssohn II, p. 631) "The publication contains some interesting and authentic information respecting the South African War, 1899-1902, and is furnished with a number of maps and illustrations." - Mendelssohn. The individual components are, in themselves, uncommon (Mendelssohn notes only the first three parts); the full work, whether in one or two volumes, is seldom encountered. Demonstrating the finest Teutonic precision, it is, in essence, a treatise on the logistics of the early stages of the Anglo-Boer War.
