This lot consists of two original London Times Newspapers.

1)The Times, Wednesday, June 4, 1902. Eighteen pages (complete). The last leaf is loose. The spine is torn in places which would suggest that the newspaper was preserved in a bound collection of sorts and later detached. Apart from these flaws, the newspaper is in remarkably good condition throughout.

2)The Times, Saturday, June 7, 1902. 22 pages of which the title page is missing. This issue also appears to have been detached from a bound collection and is also in good condition.

Of interest to collectors of Boer War Memorabilia are the numerous articles relating to the recent peace settlement;

June 4: The scene at Pretoria / Military arrangements / Feelings in the empire / The Boer Prisoners / The Boer delegates in Europe / Japanese congratulations / Opinion abroad / A message from the Pope / The Cape Constitution (A speech by Sir Gordon Sprigg). Also a column on the work of the National Scouts and their work in influencing the Burghers to abandon further resistance. There are telegram exchanges between the King and Lords Milner and Kitchener relating to the Peace, also telegram messages with Colonial congratulations. Then there is also a page devoted to War Casualties.

June 7: Latest intelligence; The Peace - Boers surrendering / De Wets Advice (also a notice of De Wet's arrival in London) / South Africa and the Settlement / Thanksgiving for Peace / The Boers in Portugal / Belgium Opinion / Cape Colony / Orange River Colony / The alleged British Camp in America. Also more telegrams between the government and Lord Kitchener. Another page of war casualties.
