Essentially,the book is a concentrated and factual account of Xhosa tribal life under the following headings:the tribal territory; bodily physique ans accomplishments: clothing and ornaments; children; illness and remedies; languages; magic; religion and moral values; domestic life; status of women; marriage; social life; government; administration of justice; war and peace; death customs; origin; relations with the colonists. This edition the first to appear in English. has been translated by Dr William Fehr; its publication come 153 years after the publication of the German edition. xiv- Foreword 117 pages text with four folding colour plates and other illustrations.
