This is the personal narrative of a young Scottish officer, Lieutenant James Ewart, who spent the years from 1811 to 1814 on garrison duties in Cape Town with the 93rd(Highland) Regiment of Foot. Later he accompanied his regiment to Florida and took part in the disastrous attempts by the British to capture New Orleans in January 1815.
