After a voyage of 23 days on The Edinburgh Castle, landfall at Cape Town, and the lady's diary begins, describing her travels along the coast to Natal, observations on Kafir life, Kafir Missions and Missionaries, Weddings and Kraals, and expedition into the bush, a stay in Pietermaritzburg; all accompanied by 9 illustrations; 335pp., followed by 39pp. adverts.

Condition: the illustrated boards are in good condition, spine title gilt, spine faded, contents good but with the binding cracked at p.177 and 192 (same gathering), occasional finger-marking and foxing; front free end-paper is missing, and the front and rear inner hinges are cracked.
