Frontispiece photograph of Jackson's Drug and General Store, advertisement, 2 portrait plates, 13 pages of letterpress by Emily L. Jackson (a description and history of the Island), map, 28 full-page photographic illustrations (1 double  page), original red decorated and embossed card covers, a little worn around the edges. The name of a previous owner inscribed in ink inside the front cover, ‘Charles Lewis, H.M.S. Blanche, Cape & West Coast of Africa, 1900-1904.’

Several of the photographs of are the Boer prisoners including a portrait of General and Mrs Cronje and a photograph of their home in St. Helena. The text includes an account on the imprisonment of Dinuzulu kaCetshwayo with his two uncles Ndabuko and Shingana, wives and servants on the island from 1890 to 1897.
